Why Filipino Bookshelf?
There are a lot of great writers in the Philippines and sadly, other than the compulsory reading list from school, we never really paid much attention to these Filipino writers. The likes of Nick Joaquin, Cirilo F. Bautista, F. Sionil Jose, Stevan Javellana, Lualhati Bautista and so many others are not known to many, particularly the younger generation and even those Filipinos who were born and raised in other countries.
Contemporary Filipino writers also deserve a spot in this blog. Bob Ong, Jessica Zafra, Ambeth Ocampo; tackling different literary genres will surely find their way here.
While this is not an attempt to critique their works or give my two cents’ worth [as I am not worthy], I will at least share what little I know of their works by giving out a bird’s eye-view of the books they have written and which I have read. 🙂
Perhaps I will share my favorite parts of the book, the characters I liked and such. I hope in this way, a lot more Filipinos will become aware of the rich literature our country has and be even more proud that we all are Filipinos. 🙂

I was seventeen years old when Dr. Rolando Carbonell’s — Beyond Forgetting — tickled my romantic curiosity, and I became his fan since then. It was followed by Robert Frost’s — Acquainted with the Night — when in 2012, at 72, I discovered the passion of madness in creative writing and poetry. Today at 74, nothing would pleased me more than creating madness inside my “Lolo’s Nirvana.”

I did not know that Filipino Bookshelf exists not until a friend of mine in Facebook shared the poem of Rolando Carbonell that has been published through it. This prompted me to realize that budding writers are given the chance to share their literary works not only for the sake of being published but also for the intent of discovering more talents for the enrichment Filipino literature to be known worldwide. Do you have a website where I may freely share my literary works? Thank you very much.
